For ten years I volunteered as a one-to-one carer and driver for a UK children’s charity. In this role, I supported sick and disabled children by providing individual care and assistance, helping to deliver respite opportunities through participation in life-enhancing holiday experiences to Florida, USA.
Profession
I was employed as a Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police Service and have since retired after 22 years of service. During my career, I worked across a diverse range of policing roles, including youth-focused work and close partnership engagement with schools. These roles involved extensive interaction with children and young people, providing guidance, support, and safe, confidential opportunities to discuss personal, family, and safeguarding-related issues.
Reasoning
Through both my professional career and my work with a children’s charity, I have gained extensive experience supporting young people facing a wide range of challenges. These have included working with children who are sick or disabled, as well as young people affected by bullying, abuse, and difficult family circumstances.
I am acutely aware of the many pressures young people face on a daily basis, particularly those who take on caring responsibilities within their families. Young carers are often overlooked, lacking a strong voice and, as a result, missing out on vital opportunities and experiences.
In establishing this charity alongside my fellow trustees, our aim is to address this gap by providing much-needed respite for young people who care for sick and/or disabled family members. We hope to offer them not only a break from their responsibilities, but also the opportunity to experience a truly life-enhancing holiday.

With over 30 years of dedicated service at a Youth Centre in Bexley, I have held diverse roles including activity leader, sports leader, residential leader, Duke of Edinburgh Leader, and Team Leader. This breadth of experience has deepened my understanding of the unique needs of young people and the importance of tailored support.
Volunteer Work
From 2008 to 2018, I volunteered as a carer and Group Leader for a UK children’s charity, providing respite and care for sick and disabled children. I organized and led international trips, offering life-changing experiences for young people facing significant challenges.
Professional Career
Alongside my part-time role at the Youth Centre, I am a Chartered Building Surveyor and Partner at a multi-disciplinary construction consultancy. Starting as an office junior, I advanced to Partner, specializing in Building Safety and overseeing quality assurance policies and procedures.
Motivation and Vision
My work with young people and as a carer has revealed the challenges faced by young carers, including limited opportunities for personal growth. I am passionate about creating spaces where these individuals can step away from daily responsibilities, develop new skills, and build confidence. Establishing the Diamond Kite Foundation is my way of making a lasting difference in their lives.

Background and Experience
I have volunteered as a carer and driver for a UK children’s charity giving sick and disabled children a holiday of a lifetime to Disney World, Florida. This provided 24 hour care for children and young adults with differing needs, offering both them and their families much needed respite.
Profession
Following an enjoyable and varied career with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust that commenced in 1993, I retired in April 2025. Throughout my 30-year tenure as a registered Paramedic, I developed a comprehensive background in high-pressure frontline emergency care and strategic clinical management. My professional journey has been defined by a commitment to clinical excellence, leadership within the NHS, and the consistent delivery of high-quality patient outcomes in complex environments.
Reasoning
Having previously volunteered for a children’s charity, I have first hand knowledge of the challenges being a full time career can pose and the positive impact respite can have for their dependents. By offering young carers the opportunity to have a well deserved holiday of a lifetime, it would greatly benefit them and give them the chance of some personal reflection and development along with an experience unlike any other.

Background and Experience
I started out working with children and young people in a voluntary capacity at a Youth Centre in Bexleyheath, Kent. I have been working there part time since 1995 and continue to enjoy working with the local youth community. I have achieved many accreditations including qualified youth worker, Expedition and Sports Leader and I am a Team Leader. I have gained skills, knowledge, experience and training in working with young people in an informal educational setting in the centre, on day and residential trips, and this has given me an understanding of their behaviours, needs and development. I have also volunteered as a one-to-one carer for children’s charity providing respite and care for sick and disabled children, taking young people to America for the holiday of a lifetime. I started working with this charity in 2008 up to 2018 when the charity was closed. In total I have participated in twelve trips, working with varying staff, teams and children on each trip.
Profession
My main profession is in the Health and Safety Sector. I am a Chartered Health and Safety Professional, working in the Construction Industry as a Principal Designer for CDM, as well as managing the Health and Safety for our office and advising at the Youth Centre and for the Diamond Kite Foundation. Due to my experience, training and knowledge of Health and Safety systems and procedures I have the skills to identify risks and hazards and eliminate or control risk to reduce the likelihood of accidents and injuries.
Reasoning
On the residential trips through the youth centre and with the charity, I have gained a wider knowledge of the needs of young people from different backgrounds and with ranging abilities. From discussions with children, families, teachers and social workers I have learned that children who care are sometimes missing out on opportunities and experiences that other children have. Therefore, my aim, is to let children be children and have a great holiday and meet and socialise with other children in the same or similar situations.
